Taking care of your body is extremely important–and this includes taking care of your smile. Here are some simple things to remember as you care for your teeth and gums.
Brush: Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. Brush with gentle pressure, with a small amount of fluoride toothpaste. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and short, tooth-wide strokes. These should be at about a 45* angle to your gums. Brush every tooth–inside, outside, and chewing surfaces.
Floss: Don’t forget to floss your teeth once a day, every day. Use about 18 inches of ADA-approved dental floss and use it to gently remove plaque and food particles from between teeth using a sawing motion. If conventional flossing is difficult for you, talk to Dr. Alex Abernathy about other interdental cleaners that are approved for that purpose.
ADA Seal: Much more than a logo, this seal can be found on products that deal with your mouth–toothbrushes, toothpastes, mouthwash, bleach trays, even some chewing gums. To earn the seal, a product must undergo and pass thorough testing for safety and effectiveness. The seal cannot be purchased, it must be earned. This ensures you get a quality product.
Visit Your Dentist: Visiting your dentist regularly will help make sure that any problems are caught early, and that your teeth stay as clean as possible.
